When you purchase your doll, do not tear the packaging when you remove your doll. You should do your best to keep the packaging in excellent condition. The doll will need to be removed from its packaging so you can take the necessary steps to ensure it has a long shelf life.
The first thing you should do is remove any tape from bows in the hair of your doll. The fabric could be damaged if any glue from the tape remains, which could definitely affect the value of the collectible doll. Anything in the packaging that might rust should also be removed. Your collectible doll could be destroyed if it comes in contact with rusty metal in the packaging.
The steps you choose to take will depend on how long you wish to keep your doll. Collectible dolls should be wrapped in acid-free tissue paper which is available at craft stores. Then the doll’s clothes should be removed, and the doll should be wrapped in the tissue paper before putting the clothes back on the doll. By doing this, the integrity of the fabric will be maintained for an extended period of time. If you don’t wrap the doll in tissue paper, fabric dyes could bleed into the doll’s skin. Multi-colored skin tones on a collectible doll are definitely not desirable!

The next thing you need to treat is the doll’s eyes. Treating your doll’s eyes with a diluted solution of isopropyl alcohol (half water, half alcohol) will ensure that they move freely. Lay the doll on its back and treat the eyes with a thin layer of the solution. The entire eye area should be wiped with a clean cotton cloth and allowed to dry completely. This treatment will ensure that your doll’s eyes are completely clean and dust free. It is not a good thing if you doll has one eye half closed and the other wide open!
Your collectible doll can be put on a shelf and forgotten when the necessary steps have been taken to preserve it for an extended shelf life. Dolls shouldn’t be bought as an investment as their value will not increase significantly over time. Dolls should not be bought if your only motivation is to profit from them. If you have a passion for dolls, you can always hope that the value will increase over time. This is why you must prepare your doll properly in order to maintain the perfect condition.
