Play Your Antique Musical Instruments![]() Do you collect antique musical instruments? Do you use them solely for decorative purposes? I wouldn't do that if I were you! That might come as a surprise to you, but it often bothers me to see antique musical instruments hanging on the wall or lying on the shelf only to be displayed.
Unless, of course, the antique musical instrument is so old and fragile that playing it would cause it to fall apart. It has served its time and purpose, so to speak, and deserves to be retired and decorate the house of a collector for everyone to admire. That I can certainly understand. However, there are quite a number of antique musical instruments that are still in good shape and certainly playable, and believe me, there are people who would simply die to be able to make music on them! Some of you may say that you are not a musician, just an antique collector. Well, do you know anyone who is a musician? How about inviting them over to play some of your antique musical instruments and pipe some music to your ears? I'm sure you will enjoy listening to it. Anyway, being antique is not what makes musical instruments beautiful. I have a Martin guitar instrument that only dates from the 90s, and it is still one of the most lovely axes that I have ever seen or heard. Although I have heard antique musical instruments that are nicer sounding than my Martin guitar, there are not many. In my opinion it is still one of the nicest guitars ever, even if it does not stand among the antique musical instruments. It has a beautiful rosewood top, inlaid with abalone shells and everything, and the sound is just unbelievable if you ask me. And that instrument is practically new. The only
reason I see for looking for antique musical instruments is if you have
something very specific in mind. For example, there are quite a number of medieval
musical instruments that are not used anymore except by a few people who are
big fans. If you don't look among a lot of antique musical instruments, there
is no way that you will find one with the authentic old sound that many hold so
dear, and it is important to get the right sound when you play.
Unless you are trying to find a one-of-a-kind antique musical instrument, either from a specific time period, a certain type of instrument (for instance, an antique piano, bassoon, clarinet, or drum) or a particular model that is rare and hard to find, you should consider just getting one that is simply old and therefore, a little less expensive. You may be surprised to find that it is as nice to play, and probably will even look just as beautiful. All in all, there may not be much difference, except in price. Of course, I have seen antique musical instruments that are absolutely elegant and unique. Everyone goes crazy for something that is special and hand crafted. These kinds of antique musical instruments are a collector's dream, and a delight for anyone to behold. Don't you think it would even be better if you and others could listen to the enchanting sound they produce? So, take those magnificent
antique musical instruments down from the wall or the display rack, and start
playing them. You just may be amazed at how wonderful they sound and wonder why
you never played them all this time. All About Arts and Antiques Antique Perfume Bottles Victorian Christmas Decorations Vintage Cars Birthstone Rings Antique Furniture Vintage Costume Jewelry Renaissance Wedding Gowns
